Ilya, Snezhnoe

Across the conflict stricken regions of Ukraine diabetes festers due to the war. The war has resulted in there being no medical support in the disputed territories. Along with the stresses the conflict brings and the struggle to provide children with a healthy diet, children are suffering with a severe lack of insulin and healthy food causing distress for single parents and families. ChildAid is working tirelessly with local volunteers to supply these children with insulin, medicine and food.

Ilya is four years old and lives in Snezhnoe. He has suffered with asthma since he was eight months old and diabetes since he was one year old.

When our local volunteers arrived to provide Ilya with insulin they found a very sociable child, playful and humorous. They noticed how he had not let his condition get him down, and were amazed at his resilience with such scarcity of insulin.

Ilya's mother and father spoke to our volunteers about the struggle they face to find medication for their son. They are they live in is lacking in social support and they spoke about how the reality now is that it is nearly impossible to find the medication they need. Thankfully, with the support of our followers we were able to provide local volunteers with the resources necessary to help Ilya; thank you.

Veronika, Luhansk

Across the conflict stricken regions of Ukraine diabetes festers due to the war. The war has resulted in there being no medical support in the disputed territories. Along with the stresses the conflict brings and the struggle to provide children with a healthy diet, children are suffering with a severe lack of insulin and healthy food causing distress for single parents and families. ChildAid is working tirelessly with local volunteers to supply these children with insulin, medicine and food.

Veronika lives in Luhansk and is eleven years old. She became ill in July 2015 with diabetes due to the stress resulting from the Ukraine conflict. The area she lives in has been repeatedly bombed and she has witnessed horrific fighting. In late summer of 2015 she was taken to intensive care due to the high level of blood sugar.

When she was diagnosed with diabetes her parents were shocked. Her mother told our volunteers: "I did not know what to do, never had diabetes in the family, no on ever got sick. We did not know where to get medication. We did not know how we would afford the medication".

Desperate for help, Veronika's mother and father contacted our local volunteers who provided assistance. Veronika's mother is so grateful for the help from ChildAid supporters in this time. She has also started to attend church with Veronika and pray for her healing.

Kira, Stakhanov

Across the conflict stricken regions of Ukraine diabetes festers due to the war. The war has resulted in there being no medical support in the disputed territories. Along with the stresses the conflict brings and the struggle to provide children with a healthy diet, children are suffering with a severe lack of insulin and healthy food causing distress for single parents and families. ChildAid is working tirelessly with local volunteers to supply these children with insulin, medicine and food.

Kira lives in Stakhanov. In Stakhanov there is no free public provision of insulin. The area greatly lacks in social services. The price of medicine here can be twice or three times as expensive as elsewhere in Ukraine. Some medicine is not available to buy at all.

This is the second time our local volunteers have visited Kira. The first time they provided her with desperately needed insulin and they have remarked they saw a happier, healthier child on their return visit. On this visit, our local volunteers provided Kira with more insulin, additional medication as well as a blood glucose meter with strips for quick blood sugar level measurement.

Our volunteers repeatedly mentioned the difference they saw in Kira over the two visits. On their first visit Kira seemed weak, quiet and pale. Now they arrived to Kira playing in the streets with her friends and in seemingly good health. Regular insulin has given Kira the opportunity to live a fun childhood - thank you for her give her this chance.

On our last visit we also spoke with Kira's grandmother. It was at this time her Grandmother came to Christ, as with many of her neighbours. Upon our return we found the community still devote to the Lord and we are now considering building a small house church and finding someone to come and speak and pray with them once a week.

Kira's hormonal system is struggling to function, needing her to consume a wide vary of medication. Our volunteers gave her mother some money for food, however on our next visit we will also be bring food to the family. We also have a steam cooker ready to be sent to the family thanks to the generosity of our supporters.

Ekaterina is 13 years old and lives in Luhansk. She has suffered with diabetes since childhood and her condition has worsened throughout the conflict.

Our local volunteers met Ekaterina during a visit to the Children's Hospital. She was hospitalised due to her blood sugars reaching such low levels. This was the case for many hospitalised children as our volunteers grew even more aware of the insulin crisis gripping the region.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters we were able to fund local volunteers and supply them with much needed insulin, blood glucose meters and test strips. Ekaterina's family send their love and thanks to ChildAid and its supporters and are very grateful for the help. The family were also supplied with fresh fruit and vegetables.

Polina is of an age where she is well aware of the troubles and conflict in her neighbourhood. She has seen friends' families ripped apart by death and war. Her own parents left her and went to live in Russia when the conflict began. The stress of the conflict has taken a serious toll on Polina's health.

She currently lives with her grandmother in dire poverty. She studies in railway college and remains optimistic about her future. Our volunteers have supplied her with much needed insulin and remark she is a cheerful girl who just needs support in this desperate time. When he was 11 years old when he was diagnosed with diabetes. For the last six years, his survival has depended on a continuing supply of insulin. +ChildAid's volunteers currently supply Maxim with insulin, which he and his mother is very grateful for.

Unfortunately Maxim's mother can not afford to buy insulin, and recieves no support from Maxim's estranged father who we're told is more concerned with the war than his son's health. Maxim's mother Olga works as a care assistant in the local hospital; a extremely low paying job. The families financial situation is in dire straits and desperately need the support from our partners. Alexander, Luhansk

Alexander is just one of many children suffering from diabetes and lacking adequate medicines for his condition.

With medical resources running scare, Alexander's doctors prescribed him with the wrong medicine, causing is blood sugar to raise too high. This improper treatment left him with growing hunger and thirst. Luckily, our volunteers were able to supply Alexander with the medicines that suited his condition. He began to feel better the very next day as his mother praised God for such a timely gift. Our volunteers spent the night with the family and remarked they could see a difference in Alexander even the next day.

Alexander's parents can not find employment due to the conflict in the disputed area and are therefore also in need of food and clothing. Thanks to the donations from our followers we provided our volunteers with the supplies and resources to supply Alexander's family and many more like is with the much needed necessities.
